Family Ministries

Family Ministries, what does that mean? And why do we have an Associate Pastor for Youth and Family Ministries?

Those are good questions! Here, I hope, are some good answers.

First, let me say what Family Ministries ISN'T.  It isn't a club for young adults with kids who all look and feel and think just alike and all drive the same minivan or SUV.  It isn't a gimmick or a tool to bring young families into the church. It isn't based on a formula or a program; nor is it limited by anything but our imaginations and budgets.

What it is about for us, is building Christian relationships.  How do we do that?  By having parties, taking family outings together, we may choose to study something together, or to do some mission work as a group.

What will make this really work is that we recognize that families come in all shapes, sizes and ages - in other words, everyone is welcome to participate.  Also, we recognize that just because you are part of a group doesn't mean you are going DO (or even want to do) everything.  Come when you can, or when the activity interests you knowing that we aren't going to bug you about it when you don't come.

Our first group is the "Allsorts Families Club."

"Allsorts" are licorice candies that come in a bunch of different shapes, sizes and colors.

The reality of life is that families, like licorice candies come in "ALL SORTS."  Our vision for this group is that ALL the families of the church are welcome from a single person or widow to a "traditional nuclear family" to an extended clan of cousins or a group of friends so close that they consider themselves family.  This group is starting out by doing one activity every other month and alternating between activities for the whole family (kid friendly) and "Adults ONLY" activities.

Do you have any ideas for "Allsorts Club" or for another Family Ministries group?  Let me know and I'll help you get it started.  I am Pastor Kris, the Associate Pastor for Youth and Family Ministries.  I am here because this congregation has made ministry with youth and families (of all kinds) their highest priorities.  I was called specifically for these ministries.  Still have questions, or want to share your needs or ideas with me?  Email me at: pastorkris@stpaulucc4u.org

Peace,

Pastor Kris
