What do we do together?

           It is an important question.  The easy way to answer it is with a list of our programs and activities all neatly linked to the right pages of this website... and we have included this handy reference below.

          But the easy way is not usually the best way.  Yes, we have programs and activities ; we do the business and busy-ness of the modern church.  But that doesn't really capture the true picture of what we DO together.

          As a COMMUNITY of FAITH, a FAMILY of DISCIPLES (or FOLLOWERS) of Jesus of Nazareth - whom we call Christ (or Messiah or annointed one) our primary task is to support and encourage each other in life and in each person's part in the ministry of Jesus.  We believe that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ has been called to a particular ministry in the church or in the world.  Your ministry could be as simple as smiling and waving at every person you see, or you could be called to serve meals to the homeless or sing in the choir or serve on a board or committee.  As St. Paul reminds us: there are many gifts and many kinds of ministry, but only one God who gives us our talents and whom we serve.

          So together: we worship God; we pray; we sing; we welcome visitors; we learn together and from one another as we study scripture in Sunday School, confirmation class and adult Bible Study groups; we share each others' joys and celebrations along with each others' sorrows, sicknesses, pains and griefs; we EAT together as often as we can find a good excuse; we engage in mission - both through our offerings and also by engaging in hands on mission work at home and abroad; and in all of our activity we listen for the voice of the "Still Speaking" God guiding us to do God's will and God's work in the world.  Because we really believe that the church is the body of Christ; we have no choice but to continue Christ's ministry.  That is what we DO together, the rest is just details and activity.
